A Lovely, Unique Gift Idea | bakerdays Letterbox Cake + GIVEAWAY!

I know what you're thinking, Kirsty why are you talking about Christmas when we're literally a few days into October? Well, I know what you mean but let's face it, once Halloween has been and gone the next major thing on our minds (here in the UK anyway) is Christmas really.

Today's post is all about literally one of the best gift ideas I've heard about in ages. A letterbox cake. Pretty great, right? At bakerdays you can choose from their personalised cake designs and make it your own, add photos, names and even choose the cake mix inside.

So how does it work? You can easily browse through the bakerdays website and decide on the design you're looking for (whether it be a Birthday, Christmas, Get Well Soon cake - there's lots of choices).

After selecting the cake and personalising to the desired look for your recipient, you then can choose the cake mix - Traditional Sponge, Rich Chocolate Chip, Gluten Wheat Free Sponge, Lovely Lemon Drizzle, Dairy Free Sponge and Fabulous Fruit. So there's a cake for everyone's taste and needs.

Also if you order before 2pm Next Day UK delivery.

The packaging is letterbox sized as expected and the cake arrives in a cute tin to keep it lovely and fresh. Because of the way it's packaged, you don't have to worry about the cake not surviving the drop to the floor when it's posted through your letterbox. The cake will stay fresh for up to 14 days upon arrival if stored in a cool, dry place (not in the fridge, as it may dry out the sponge).

Inside the tin, the cake is inside a protective bag which has a little tag with instructions how to remove the cake from the tin without damaging it, usually with things like that, they never seemed to work for me. But thankfully it actually worked (yay!) and I got the cake out without damaging or dropping it.

I chose the "eat, drink and be merry" cake and it looks exactly as it does on the website. I really like the bright blue colour and the geometric shapes, along with the snowflakes - it's a nice modern twist. The recipe I decided on was the chocolate mix, which I'll admit wasn't a hard choice because who doesn't love chocolate cake?

Me, my mum and dad all had a slice each and there was still cake leftover. We all agreed that it tasted really nice, the chocolate was not too rich or sickly - it was just right. I also really liked the icing but let's face it, I don't have a sweet tooth, I have sweet teeth, so of course I loved the icing lol.

Overall I think this is such a nice, unusual idea for a gift. No one is going to be expecting a cake through their letterbox really are they? Whether it's a Christmas cake or birthday cake or another one of the many options available on the website, I think it's a fab idea and a great price at £14.99.
