Bridgerton S3
Where? Netflix
Bridgerton is definitely one of my favourite shows that has come out in the last couple of years. Each season focuses mostly on one character from the powerful Bridgerton family and their attempt to find love during the Regency era’s social season but there are also other little storylines going on with their relatives and friends too. Bridgerton Season 3 will be following Penelope Fetherington and Colin Bridgerton’s story, Penelope finally feels ready to move on from her longtime crush Colin after hearing what he said about her last season and starts taking the whole looking for a marriage match more seriously. However, she doesn’t have a lot of confidence when it comes to the matchmaking social season so Colin, whilst trying to make it up to her offers to help her to find a perfect marriage match. I think Penelope’s character is really interesting and probably one of my favourites in the show because of her secret so I’m looking forward to the new season when it’s released. There’s no official date yet but I think it’ll be released around late spring - early summer.
You S4
Where? Netflix
You follows Joe Goldberg who in the first season is a quiet bookstore manager in New York, after meeting a woman named Guinevere Beck he becomes obsessed and basically inserts himself into her life and removes any obstacle in the way such as friends and ex-boyfriends so that he can get close to her. Fast forward to season 4, Joe is still behaving the same way and after what happened in the previous season, he finds himself on the run in London with a new identity of ‘Jonathan Moore’ along with a new job as a Professor however this time the tables have turned and Joe or ‘Jonathan’ has a stalker who is also preying on his new well-off work colleagues and their elite social circle so he ends up playing detective trying to figure out who it is. Part 1 is out now on Netflix and Part 2 is coming out on 9th March.
Orphan Black: Echoes
Where? Not sure yet
I’m not sure whether you need to have watched Orphan Black before the new show Orphan Black: Echoes which is set after the original series of Orphan Black in the near future. It’s not a direct sequel but it’s set in the same world and Echoes takes a deeper look into the exploration of scientific manipulation of human existence and follows a group of women who are looking into the mystery of their identity whilst getting tangled up in each other’s lives. However, this time the main character is called Lucy and is played by Krysten Ritter and Keeley Hawes is also starting in an unknown role too.
If you like Sci-fi shows then I would highly recommend checking out the original Orphan Black series in general, it’s currently on All4 in the UK and it’s such an underrated show. It follows Sarah Manning, a British con artist living in Toronto who unfortunately witnesses a suicide, she then quickly realises that the woman appears to be her doppelgänger. Sarah then goes on to steal Beth Child’s identity along with her occupation as a police detective. At first, she takes Beth’s identity with the intention of taking her money but she then gets wrapped up in Beth’s world and the reason why she appears to be her doppelgänger.
Sanditon S3
Where? ITV or Britbox
If you’re a fan of Bridgerton then I think you’ll like Sanditon which is an adaption of Jane Austen’s final unfinished book before her death. It follows Charlotte Heywood, a young woman who after an unexpected invite moves from her rural family home to Sanditon which is an old fishing town that is attempting to become a seaside resort. During her time in Sanditon she meets an array of its residents, some nice, some not so nice, all of which have their own things going on. With Charlotte being quite naïve she tries to see the good in everyone which often leaves her confused or hurt. It has everything from comedy, some romance, family secrets and more. I don’t really want to say much about Season 3 because I feel like it might spoil what has happened in the previous seasons but Season 3 is its final season. I’m not sure when it’s on in the UK but I know it’s being released in the US in March so hopefully, it‘ll be on our screens not long after that in the UK.
Daisy Jones and The Six
Where? Prime Video
Daisy Jones and The Six is a mini-series based on the popular book of the same title by Taylor Jenkins Reid and it follows a rock band in the 1970s and their rise in the LA music scene to then becoming one the most popular and successful bands of the time. It also delves into the reasons for their split at the height of their fame. I did try to read the book but I couldn’t get into it because of the writing style format, if you've read it then you'll probably know what I mean, so I’m looking forward to sitting down and watching the TV show instead. The cast includes Riley Keough, Sam Claflin, Camilla Morrone, Suki Waterhouse and more and the first three episodes will be released on the 3rd of March.
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story
Where? Netflix
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is the prequel spin-off and is about Queen Charlotte’s rise to the throne and also her and George’s society-changing love story. Although it appears that the show is focusing on Queen Charlotte’s younger years, it seems that they will be focusing on the present day as well as Golda Rosheuvel and Adjoa Andoh are set to reprise their roles as Queen Charlotte and Lady Danbury. There’s no official date other than Spring 2023 at the moment but I’m looking forward to learning more about Queen Charlotte’s life.
The Handmaids Tale Final Season
Where? Channel 4/All 4
The final season of The Handmaid’s Tale is set to release towards the end of this year (so it could potentially slip into a 2024 release) and whilst it’s one of the most disturbing and nerve-wracking shows I’ve ever watched, it really pulls you in as you’re constantly rooting for the Handmaid’s and for them to all get the justice they deserve. I’m just hoping that it has a satisfying ending and that they don’t kill off June or any of her family right at the end of the show because that’d be so annoying.
Not Dead Yet
Where? Not sure yet
Not Dead Yet is about a 40-something-year-old woman named Nell Stevens played by Gina Rodriguez who finds herself single and living in her hometown again after her relationship has broken down. She decides that she wants to restart the career she left behind 10 years ago for her partner and his new business. However, the only job she can find is writing obituaries which she soon finds out comes with the unexpected new ability to see and communicate with ghosts. I’m looking forward to watching this as the trailer looks funny, however, there’s no confirmed date/streaming channel for us in the UK yet but hopefully, it’ll get confirmed soon!
Race Across The World S3
Where? BBC One/iPlayer
Race Across The World is literally one of my favourite shows on BBC but obviously, it’s not been on for a couple of years because of Covid. If you’re not familiar with Race Across The World then it’s a competition with 5 pairs of travellers and they have to give up their own money, smartphones and access to the internet and they have to travel from one country to another without using a plane - with just the cost of the airfare to the final destination. Last season they had to make their way from Mexico City to the most southerly city in the world, Ushuaia in Argentina. They can make their way to the final destination through whichever countries they want depending on what they want to see, the experiences they want to have, jobs available and whether the country is expensive or not but they have check-in at checkpoints every so often where they catch up with their rivals and have a rest. It’s a great show and I highly recommend it. Seasons 1 and 2 are still available on iPlayer.
The Reluctant Traveller with Eugene Levy
Where? Apple TV+
Lastly is another travel show which is actually coming out this month and it’s following reluctant traveller Eugene Levy whose probably best known for playing Johnny Rose in Schitt’s Creek to multiple destinations around the world from Finland, Japan, Portugal, The Maldives and more and whilst visiting each destination he explores the hotels, the culture and experiences you can take part in. I really like these kinds of shows because you learn more about the person hosting the show but it’s also educational in terms of learning more about parts of the world and their culture. It will be coming out on the 24th of February on Apple TV+.
